Scorn Of Shipton: Visions Of Fire was inspired by the life and death of Ursula Southeil c.?1488–1561 a mysterious folklaw figure known as Mother Shipton. She exhibited prophetic and psychic abilities from an early age. Many of her visions came true within her own lifetime and in subsequent centuries. It is alleged her collection of prophecies were transcribed and smuggled tout of the Mitchell Library Sydney now the State Library of New South Wales. The originals are kept in a locked room along with many other volumes of prophetic writings deemed unsuitable for viewing by the general public. Some of her more prophetic verses allude to cars and motorcycles during an age of horse and cart: “A carriage without horse will go” and “Through towering hills proud men shall ride No horse or ass move by his side”. Floating metal ships during a age of wooden boats. “In water iron then shall float as easy as a wooden boat” A possible reference to Australia? “Gold shall be seen in stream and stone In land that is yet unknown.” And what some may construe to be the telephone or internet “Around the world mens thoughts will fly Quick as the twinkling of an eye.” The piece Scorn Of Shipton: Visions Of Fire specifically centres around her alleged death of burning at the stake which is highly debated to this day. Her prophecy goes as follows: ”I shall be burned at the stake at one my body singed and my soul set free You think I utter blasphemy Youre wrong.
